Lower Cholesterol Introduction

Over the last decade or two there have been growing concerns about our fat intake and cholesterol.  For years doctors and nutritionists have been trying to tell us that fat kills.  In fact governments have finally taken steps to reduce certain types of fats like trans fats from foods and to force manufacturers to reveal the type and levels of fats found in their foods.

This really isn’t new news – for years we’ve been told to increase the fiber in our diet and reduce the fats, to increase our good cholesterol and decrease our bad cholesterol.  The evidence that we are killing ourselves is clear with heart disease being the greatest killer in the western world.

Yet despite what seems to be unequivocal facts the debate continues on.  Is diet killing us ?  Is cholesterol really the cause of heart disease ?  Will changing our diet benefit us ?

There is no doubt that this is a very complex subject and that the information on both sides needs to be looked at carefully.  For example for several years we were told that eggs were not good for us, that eating too many eggs could cause us to have a cholesterol problem.  Yet recent studies are saying the opposite – that eggs are actually good for us and that there should be no limits on eating them.  Who do we believe?

Then we see someone that is overweight, eats way too many saturated fats and yet is healthy as a horse, while on the other hand we have someone that eats well, walks 5 miles a day, and yet they suffer a heart attack.  So how much is what we eat ?  How much is genetics ?

Well through all of what we hear it seems the medical community as well as dieticians, nutritionists, and research now agree that most of us need to lower our cholesterol levels to remain healthy or become healthy.

To do that we need to understand the foods we eat and which ones affect our cholesterol but we also have to understand weight, exercise, and genetics and how all of these elements are part of our overall health.

Stick around and we’ll help you better understand how to lower your cholesterol both on your own and with the help of drugs prescribed by your doctor.  It’s a serious subject that needs serious attention and we’ll give you the facts you need to make serious decisions.
