Vitamin To Lower Cholesterol

There are many foods that can play an important role in reducing cholesterol but is there a vitamin to lower cholesterol ? Yes – in fact there are more than one.
Zocor and Lipitor are the two most common statins used to lower cholesterol. They work by blocking HMG-CoA reductase coenzyme. These two drugs are the two most sold drugs in their class yet Vitamin C is the body’s natural HMG CoA Reductase inhibitor. Vitamin C is Mother Natures perfect statin without the side effects of Lipitor or Zocor. In fact it was Vitamin C that was the model for these statin drugs.
Niacin or Vitamin B3 also helps to lower high cholesterol levels. It’s not only safe, it is also very inexpensive and it requires no prescription. Niacin helps you relax and sleep better at night while reducing harmful cholesterol levels in the blood. It is also one of the best choices for elevating the good cholesterol. In fact no other single agent has the potential to lower both cholesterol and triglycerides.
Policosanol although not a vitamin is a natural substance and it has undergone many clinical studies on its cholesterol lowering abilities. It works by helping the liver to breakdown cholesterol and studies showed it to be as effective as prescription drug options.
Garlic taken over a period of four months showed a decrease of 12% cholesterol and 17% decrease in triglycerides. This study was done on a group of 220 patients and those receiving a placebo showed no change. Another good example of what Mother Nature has to offer.
Flax Seed is a grain and not a vitamin but it is readily available and it has proven to lo reduce cholesterol levels significantly after just six weeks. It’s very affordable and so effective.
So why if there are such natural options to reduce bad cholesterol do we insist on taking dangerous drugs like Lipitor ? Why do our doctors not advise us of these options? Why does no one tell us how much CoQ10 Lipitor removes from the body ?
Why ? Because these drugs are big business for the pharmaceutical companies and doctors have been told only the good. Now don’t get me wrong these drugs do work – there’s no question about it.
But there are also natural alternatives that work and if we were told of these alternatives we would at least be able to make our own choice. More often than not the doctor’s aren’t even aware of the studies and research that has been conducted because modern day doctor does actually know very little about natural supplements and vitamins.
If you think you have high cholesterol or you know you do why not add vitamin C, niacin, garlic, and any of the other natural supplements to your diet and see what happens. You’ll be impressed with the results over a short period of time. Of course you should never do anything without first discussing it with your doctor. There are times when you need the fast acting statin drugs to keep you out of danger.
